“Kindergarten”

Pattern Collection

Captivated by the work of Saul Bass and Matisse, “Kindergarten” began as a personal 30-day challenge to turn inspiration into something new. Through experimentation with cut paper, a pattern collection emerged that infuses the joy and playfulness of this art style into everyday life at home.

Inspiration

Dissecting the work of Saul Bass, Matisse, Raymond Saa, and others, I began to create a visual framework as guidance for my own experiments - negative space, overlapping motifs, imperfect geometrics, and vibrant color. When applied, these elements harmonize to form a striking yet simple ode to humanity and play.

Experimentation

Colored cardstock, marker, oil pastel, and rubber cement became my best friends as I indulged in play, creating cut paper compositions. Some days I started with sketches, other days I followed wherever the scissors would take me.
